Mirka Introduces New Abrasives
Mirka has introduced two new abrasives to the Canadian marketplace.
This month, Mirka Canada released Iridium and Novastar—two new paper-backed and film-backed abrasives for the automotive refinishing, wood and manufacturing industries, including vehicle and marine applications. Collision Management got a chance to sample these new products which were on display at Automechanika Frankfurt, (Sept 11-15).
“Iridium and Novastar are not just an improvement on our earlier products,” said Stefan Sjöberg, CEO of Mirka, “but are aimed at redefining abrasives manufacturing technology with new optimized grains, new coating and curing techniques as well as Mirka’s new multihole patterns.”
Iridium was designed to offer optimum flexibility and grain adhesion, giving users a consistent quality and scratch pattern. A new multi-hole pattern is designed to deliver superior performance without clogging as well as extending disc life. Iridium is available in 5-inch and 6-inch discs, as well as 3 x 5-inch strips and 2.75 x 16-inch strips with perforations every 8 inches. This perforation is designed to allow the user to easily tear the longer strips of Iridium down to match the size of a 2.75 x 8-inch sander. Iridium is available in grits 80-600, making it ideally suited for use by premium collision shops, wood shops and painters & decorators.
Novastar is a film-backed abrasive that features an aggressive initial cut in coarse grits and is designed for heavy duty applications. The premium film-backing is designed to offer premium edgewear resistance, flexibility and grain adhesion, while also being waterproof. A new multi-hole pattern is designed to deliver superior performance without clogging, resulting in extended disc life. Novastar is available in 5-inch and 6-inch discs, in grits 80-180 and P240-P600, making it ideal for marine, composites and vehicle manufacturing applications.
