A Fine Future

I recently spoke to a young man who had taken over the family jobber business. And boy, was I impressed!
I was looking for a contact with some insight into how an automotive service provider would go about buying a new lift for his shop. The WD I was working with came up with a jobber who knew an ASP looking to purchase that piece of equipment.
Request for information
I don’t like to “cold call” a person I would like to interview without him knowing about it from someone he’s familiar with ahead of my call. So I emailed the jobber contact to ask if he had told his customer that I would call and why.
The jobber phoned me to discuss it! I must say I was very surprised. And discuss it we did… he too wanted to know what was behind the request for information.
As the conversation went along, I finally mentioned I knew his father and had also known his grandfather who started and built the business.
Carrying on tradition
This young man is carrying on the tradition that was put in place many years ago… and he is seriously taking that tradition to heart and serving his customers and staff with the respect and ability his grandfather and father had over the years this jobber has been in business.
He spoke so well and honestly about his staff and customers that I knew he was going to go far in business. He has the right attitude and demeanour to lead the way to even better business for his company. And he sounds like he will take the business far into the future and make it more of a success.
We need more people like this young man in the aftermarket, people who have the ability, the attitude, are well spoken, and have the determination to respect people and make smart and reliable business decisions.
