Friday, September 10, 2010 Kumho’s 50th Anniversary
Management and staff of Kumho Tire Inc., along with important customers and partners, recently celebrated the company's 50th anniversary at its headquarters in Seoul and its tire plant in Gwangju.
The origin of Kumho in 1960 came through the inability of its then parent company, Kwang Ju Highway Lines, to source suitable tires for its own buses and taxis. The company decided to develop and produce tires appropriate for the market. When production began in January 1961, the tiremaker, then known as Samyang Tires Industrial Co., manufactured just 20 tires per day. Today, daily production at Kumho’s eight facilities in South Korea, Vietnam and China is 180,000 tires, and these are sold in more than 180 countries.
