Friday, February 19, 2010 GM, First in America to Build Electric Motors
Though Ford has been leading its North-American competitors (and many other foreign manufacturers) in hybrid and electric car development, it will be GM who is going to be the first U.S. manufacturer to build its own electric motors. GM will be investing some $246 million to expand its Baltimore-area transmission plant to make electric motors for its next generation of hybrid vehicles starting in 2013. At the same time, GM will be creating some 200 “green” jobs at the new plant that will employ about 400 people. (ED)
