Monday, January 11, 2010 GM Begins Building Lithium-Ion Batteries for Chevrolet Volt
Exactly three year since the Chevrolet Volt concept car was shown at the Detroit Auto Show, General Motors manufactured its first ever advanced lithium-ion battery for the new car at its Brownstown Battery Pack Assembly Plant. The Volt battery pack is made of multiple linked battery modules and more than 200 battery cells. The initial battery production will be used to validate the plant’s equipment and processes and they will be sent to GM’s Global Battery Systems lab in Warren, Mich. for testing. (ED)
