Friday, November 20, 2009 Fiat to Build Cars at Ex-Bertone Plant
According to Reuters, Fiat S.p.A., Chrysler’s new business partner that recently acquired the former Carrozzeria Bertone plant in Italy, has announced it would produce 50,000 cars per year at that facility. This announcement follows an earlier announcement by Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne that Fiat would produce some Chryslers at the legendary plant, probably as early as 2011. Two models are announced and many observers think that the replacement of the European version of the Chrysler 300C could be built there. The actual 300C is made by Magna Steyr in Austria (along with the Jeep Grand Cherokee) but Magna’s contact ends in 2010. The same Bertone plant could very well assemble Jeep models from knockdown kits sent from the U.S. (ED)
